The sport of swimming dates back to 2000 BC, with written records of the same. The sport as we know it now evolved in 1873, and was part of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 in Athens. The Federation International de Natation (that’s French for International Swimming Federation) was formed in 1908.Swimming today is competed on 4 main variations or strokes – Freestyle, Breast, Back and Butterfly.
